Propane and Butane: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)
Dependable and efficient fuel for your off-grid business
Keen to fuel your business with LPG?
What is Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)?
LPG refers to two types of natural gas (Propane and Butane). These are natural by-products of gas and oil extraction (66%) and oil refining (34%).
It’s an exceptional and efficient source of energy – that would otherwise go to waste if not captured – and has become a vital part of the UK’s off-grid energy mix. LPG is used as fuel for vehicles, heating appliances, and cooking equipment.

Propane and Butane: LPG supply
LPG is available in handy, portable cylinders of propane or butane, or larger, bulk tanks – or you may benefit from a mix of the two. It will depend on your usage and storage space:
Gas Bottles
Gas bottles are designed to meet lower-volume needs. You may find that the amount of propane or butane you use can vary from day to day, so we have made it easy to buy gas bottles online as and when you need them.
If your usage is more consistent you can arrange regular deliveries to ensure that you always have the supply you need.
Bulk LPG
Bulk tanks can be installed either above or below ground. They’re most popular when space is less of a concern and usage is higher.
Metered supply
A metered supply is typically used for housing developments and static caravans. This is where LPG is piped to individual properties from a centralised tank, so residents can benefit from a metered service.
What is LPG used for?
LPG is an incredibly versatile fuel with thousands of uses and it can be used practically anywhere.
It’s used across a vast array of commercial industries:
- Caravan parks
- Hospitality
- Agriculture
- Industrial heating
- Manufacturing processes, (including steam generation)
- Forklift trucks
- Fleet vehicles
You can find an exhaustive list on the UKLPG website.
